Large in-8; illustrated with 5 folding plates, 2 plates of graphics and a large folding map of Japan. Minor spotting in places. Autograph letter from the author to Monsieur le Commandant Andrea d'Emilio; and autograph letter in Italian from Commandant André d'Emilio to Luigi Blumstein, dated 1888 in Naples. Contemporary red morocco, gilt title on spine, double gilt fillet on covers, corners dulled and bent, small leather losses on edges, gilt roulette on edges, gilt head. Fundamental document for the economic and productive situation and for the Japanese silk trade during the transition period between the isolationism of the shogunate and the free international trade of the Meiji era.
