Gandidier wet stamp crossed out, repeated on several leaves in the volumes. ½ red chagrin with fillets at corners, title, tomaisons and gilt fillets on smooth spines, red percaline boards, red speckled edges. Appended: ELLIS (William), Reverend: History of Madagascar. London, Fisher, son, & Co, (1838). 2 volumes in-8; color frontispiece, 2 folding maps (Madagascar and Ville d'Antananarivo), 7 plates out of text and one folding table. Figures in the text. Some plates spotted with numerous foxing marks. Contemporary plum calf, spine ribbed, black title-pieces, rubbed and worn, rocaille gilt decoration on boards, cold filleting, gilt roulettes on edges and inside, gilt edges.
