Author's autograph letter to Mr. Demichel - Atlas (Notices et cartes) consisting of 4 pages of text and 10 colored maps (5 of which are double-page spreads). Total of 10/11 volumes in the collection. ½ red chagrin with corners, gilt titles and tomaisons, light rubbing and stains, one head cap stretched, 2 jaws cracked at foot entries, gilt initials D-F at foot (Denis Frères), miscellaneous minor defects. Bradel-style burgundy percaline atlas, gilt title on boards and spine, bevelled edges. Good condition. Superb set containing an exceptional wealth of information on Indochina. Copy without volume III (Voyages au Laos et chez les sauvages du Sud-est), but with the extremely rare volume VII (Évènements du Siam). Only a few copies of this volume of the Mission Pavie en Indo-Chine series exist; as information on events in Siam was considered politically sensitive, almost all of the print runs were destroyed. One of the very few copies saved.
