RISSO (Joseph Antoine) - POITEAU (Pierre Antoine) Natural history of orange trees. Decorated with figures painted after nature. Paris, Hérissant Le Doux, 1818-(1820). In-4, illustrated with 109 hand-colored and retouched plates by Pierre Antoine POITEAU. Copy with large margins, plates protected by serpents. ½ calf with corners, spine ribbed and decorated, brown title page, gilt palettes, fillets and cold irons, missing headpieces, jaws cracked, rubbing on the edges, one plate detached, part of the spine missing. Rare work published in 19 issues, constituting the most complete monograph of its kind and superbly illustrated by Poiteau, natural history painter and head gardener of the royal nurseries at Versailles, depicting the fruits and flowers of orange varieties. Dedicated to the Duchesse de BERRY (Nissen 1640).
