Encyclopedia DIDEROT (A4060) - D'ALEMBERT (Jean) Encyclopédie ou dictionnaire raisonné des sciences, des arts et des métiers. Genève, Pellet, 1777-79. 39 volumes in-4 (36 volumes of text and 3 of plates); copy complete with engraved plates (collated in accordance with tables), many on double-page spreads or folding. Some hors-texte folding tables are scattered throughout the text volumes. Portraits of Diderot and d'Alembert engraved by Cochin at the opening of the first volume. Text not collated. Copy with full margins. Modest paper-covered boards with rubbing. Third edition. Copy without the six table volumes printed in Lyon in 1780, which are often missing (Brunet II, 701)(Tchemerzine II, 927). Provenance: Printed bookplate of Château de Laplagne.
