PIGNORIA (Lorenzo) Laurentii Pignorii Patavini De Servis, et Eorum apud Veteres Ministeriis Commentarius, in quo famila, tum urbana, tum rustica, ordine producitur & illustratur. Padua, Frambotti, 1656. In-4: 10f., 280pp. 10f. (index); illustrated with a portrait of the author and figures in the text. Contemporary speckled fawn calf, ornate ribbed spine, limp headbands, red title-piece, triple gilt fillet framing the boards, small central gilt medallion, gilt roulette on the edges, red edges. The author, an antiquarian and archaeologist, entered Holy Orders and later became secretary to the bishop of Padua. He was well versed in civil and canon law, as well as antiquities. He had built up a rich cabinet of curiosities, books and manuscripts. His treatise on antiquities is still an authority today.
