RUSSELL-KILLOUGH (Thomas John) - Lot 337
RUSSELL-KILLOUGH (Thomas John) England and France. Paris, Douniol, 1871. In-8, 64pp. scattered foxing on a few leaves). Autograph letter to Baron de Laussat. ½ brick cloth, red title and author vignettes on spine, gray-blue cover retained. Rare. Does not concern the Pyrenees. "The relations between France and England as seen by the father of Henry RUSSELL, with long considerations on the spirit of these two nations, religion, politics, mixed marriages and nobility". Thomas John is also the author of genealogical publications on his family. An extraordinary character. In G. Schlumberger's "Souvenirs", we find picturesque anecdotes about this grand old man who, for example, obtained from the town of Pau the right to install a sort of bathing cabin on the banks of the Gave, where every morning he would go with his valet, settle in and have several buckets of ice-cold water poured over his body! Provenance: Ex-libris of Baron de Laussat.
