Nicolas-Auguste THUMELOUP (Saint-Denis 1804 - Trouville 1854) Washerwomen at the foot of a palace Brown wash over black pencil lines. 26.4 x 21.3 cm oval. Signed, dated and dedicated lower right "A mon ami Victor Paillard, 1852", annotated upper right "aux bronzes de Victor Paillard/Médaille et croix d'honneur, 1851/médailles 1859/1844/1849/Exposition d'Angleterre/1851/Chevalier de la légion d'honneur". (Slightly oiled, small stains). On verso of the frame, in a window, handwritten letter on vellum from the artist to his friend Victor Paillard, dated and located "June 24, 1852 in Paris".
