A. Ten BOS (ACTIVE IN AMSTERDAM IN THE 17th CENTURY)
Portrait of an artist (?)
Canvas.
Signed upper left "ATBos." (ATB bound); inscribed in ink on the reverse of the stretcher "ATBos. 1777/W".
Height: 74 cm, Width: 58.5 cm.
(Old restorations).
A. Ten Bos is a well-recorded but little-known artist. In 1677, a Portrait of the broker Jan de Wys (active in the second half of the 17th century) was engraved by Jan van Munnikhuysen, based on work by A. Ten Bos. Ten Bos (Amsterdam, Rijksmuseum). The Dutch Institute of Art History (RKD) lists under his name a Portrait of a Man in Front of a Window, sold in London in 1960, and a signed Landscape, on panel, sold in 1804 (not photographed).
