Attributed to Arsène CHABANIAN (Erzéroum, Turkey, 1864-Neuil - Lot 72
Attributed to Arsène CHABANIAN (Erzéroum, Turkey, 1864-Neuilly-sur-Seine, 1949) Bouquet of carnations in a Delft earthenware vase Pastel on paper mounted on canvas, annotated "Arsène Chabanian" lower left. 59.5 x 48.5 cm (view). (Stain). A naturalized French painter and engraver of Armenian origin, he trained with Jean-Paul Laurens and Gustave Moreau. He exhibited regularly at the Salon des Artistes français from 1896. The sale of numerous works in 1906 underlined the importance of pastel in Chabanian's art, as demonstrated by the delicacy of these Bouquet d'oeillets dans un vase en faïence de Delft. Although he did paint a few bouquets, his work is mainly characterized by his landscapes of Biarritz.
