AUBUSSON TAPESTRY * DEPICTING - Lot 198
AUBUSSON TAPESTRY * DEPICTING depicting Alexander's Entry into Babylon After Charles Le Brun (1619-1690). Second half of the 17th century. H : 240 cm, W : 430 cm. (Restorations). Charles Le Brun's cartoons for the History of Alexander hanging, originally intended for the Manufacture des Gobelins, are now in the Musée du Louvre (450 cm x 770 cm). A tapestry woven at the Manufacture Royale des Gobelins depicting Alexander's Entry into Babylon has adorned the King's bedroom at the Château de Versailles since 1947. A similar tapestry was sold at the Beaussant-Lefèbre auction house in Paris on December 2, 2011, lot 284 (290 cm x 480 cm), and another is in the Musée Vuillot Saint Germain in Pezenas (Hérault).
