PAIR OF BRASS AND GILT BRONZE RELIEFS - Lot 234
PAIR OF BRASS AND GILT BRONZE RELIEFS depicting "Pygmalion and Galatea" and "Psyche and Love". In a frame decorated with foliage (probably originally silvered). Circa 1830-1835. H : 24.5 cm, W : 24.5 cm. There is a Vittoz signature on a plate identical to the one representing Pygmalion and Galatea. This is probably Etienne Vittoz, active in Paris from the 1830s. The scenes depicted in this pair of reliefs are based on works by Gérard and Girodet. Psyché et l'Amour, after the painting by François Gérard exhibited at the Salon de l'An IV (1798), Pygmalion et Galatée, after the painting by Anne-Louis Girodet exhibited at the Salon de 1819.
