Mario CABRE (Barcelona, 1916 -1991) performing his famous low-hands veronic. "Felices Pascuas y Próspero Año 1956", dedicated "Con sincero recuerdo y fuerte abrazo, Mario Cabre". On the back, a handwritten letter from Rafael Abella Bermejo, to his uncle Carlos, dated 01/23/1985. Lithograph, framed under glass Size: 19 x 12 cm Mario CABRE ESTEVE, better known as Mario Cabré, is a Spanish matador. His parents were theater actors. His interest in bullfighting began at the age of eighteen, when he took part in Catalan village festivals or "Cabrerito". He made his debut in novillada with picador at Barcelona's Monumental on September 23, 1934, with Rafael Ortega Gómez Gallito, in front of novillos by don Argimiro Pérez. His career was interrupted by the Civil War. After twenty novilladas in 1943, he took his alternative in Seville with Domingo Ortega as godfather and El Estudiante as witness. Contracts were scarce for him, but at the same time he pursued a career as an actor in film and theater, which kept him away from the "mundillo". He toured Spain, the United States, Mexico and France until 1951. Injured on September 24, 1957 in Barcelona, his appearances in the ruedo became increasingly rare. He made his despedida in Barcelona in the company of Antonio Bienvenida and retired for good on October 9, 1960 in Palma de Majorca. An elegant, seductive bullfighter, he is known as "the man Ava Gardner loved", but also for his famous low-handed veronicas. After leaving the bullring, he returned to the theater, where he enjoyed many successes. He was also a poet; his works were hailed by the critics of the day.
