Morocco leather binding with the coat of arms of the Count of La Bedoyère FÉNELON (François de SALIGNAC de la MOTHE) The Adventures of Telemachus. Paris, Monsieur’s Printing House, 1785. 2 folio volumes: 3f., 309pp.; illustrated with an engraved title page, 36 plates, and 12 engravings / 2f., 297pp.; illustrated with 36 plates and 12 engravings. For a total of 72 plates by TILLIARD after drawings by MONNET and 24 engraved illustrations. Old red morocco leather with long grain from the period, decorated raised spine, triple gilt fillet framing the covers, double gilt fillet on the edges, gilt garland on the inside, blue silk endpapers, scuffing, minor bumps, and signs of wear, gilt edges. A fine copy, unfortunately missing Volume I. A fine copy. A luxurious edition printed in a run of 200 copies and magnificently illustrated. Provenance: A copy from the library of Count Henri Huchet de La Bedoyère, bearing his ex-libris with a gilded coat of arms on a piece of red leather. This erudite bibliophile owned one of the most significant collections of 19th-century books. The bulk of this collection was dispersed after his death in several public auctions.
