Louis Valdo Barbey (Valeyres-sous-Rances, canton of Vaud, 1880 -Paris, 1964) Portrait of Constantin Photiadès (1883-1949) Oil on canvas 59 x 49 cm Dedicated and signed upper right (Slightly sunken towards the bottom) Without frame Constantin Photiadès is a French writer of Greek origin, active at the beginning of the 20th century. Author of works such as Ronsard et son luth or La reine des lanturelus, he received in 1933 the Alfred Née prize, awarded by the French Academy, for the whole of his work. Louis Valdo-Barbey, after having been taught by Eugène Burnand in Switzerland, then by Georges Desvallières and Jean-Paul Laurens in Paris, became an illustrator, decorator and painter. He was appointed painter of the Navy in 1947.
